31/08/24Supporting the health of the planet
Eleven miles is an incredibly long way to swim, and six and a half hours is an awfully long time to be in a lake, but Colin Corby completed one of his biggest endurance challenges so far and swam in the Aquasphere Chillswim Windermere 11 miles end-to-end 2024.
It was much tougher, physically and psychologically, than he had imagined, and he had to call on some very deep reserves to get to the finish line.
The really good news is that with many generous donations, he raised enough money to plant 300 saplings as part of the National Trust ‘Plant 20 million trees by 2030’ appeal.

07/12/23Lake Windermere Challenge
Age is just a number - it's your mindset that really matters.
Challenging ourselves and continually seeking out new experiences, activities, and people to connect with is vitally important to our health and wellbeing. To do this we need a positive mindset.
Colin Corby, CEO of Technology Wellbeing and mindset coach has signed up to swim the 10.5 miles of Lake Windermere in Cumbria, England in August 2024 to raise money for the National Trust ‘Plant 20 million trees by 2030’ appeal. It will probably take him around 6-7 hours to complete, will require both significant physical and mindset training and will definitely be outside his comfort zone.Read more for the JustGiving page.

The Digital Detox Coach appeared on the BBC Wales X-Ray programme on the 17 October answering questions on smartphone dependency from Bethany Davies, before she embarked on a phone free digital detox at a campsite in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside. With no mobile signal, TV or WiFi, she was free to read, paint, play games and take in the amazing scenery.
Refreshed and with a clear mind, Bethany asked for tips on how to incorporate digital detox into her daily life. Colin’s key tip was to build in 3 or 4 breaks throughout the day where you just leave your phone and laptop and do something which isn’t associated with your screens. It can be as simple as going for a walk, a breathing exercise or yoga.

27/07/20Claire takes a Digital Detox.
Claire de Boursac contacted me because she was aware that she had been spending more time on her phone since lockdown when her in-person life shrank. She was still often out in nature and being mindful among the trees, but recently found herself unnecessarily checking emails while out and about or mindlessly scrolling social media in the evening. Whilst Claire’s smartphone use might be considered as minimal compared to most people, she thought that her journey through a number of digital detox challenges would be of interest to her many Instagram followers. In return I agreed to take part in a daily nature-connection challenge set by Claire and each week we would report back how we get on with our challenges. We will also discuss our experiences and on an Instagram Live on Monday 7th September at 7pm.

Earlier this year I attended a Ludovico Einaudi concert at the Barbican Centre. It was a fabulous concert and the sound quality was exquisite. The Barbican Centre, now a Grade II listed building, opened in 1982 and is one of London’s best examples of brutalist architecture. The facilities at the centre are, on the whole, excellent, but for the first time that I can remember, my attention was drawn to a fundamental customer design flaw, and a great example of Cultural Blindness.

Most of us now know that we need spend less time on our Smartphones and Tablets. It is similar to the recommendations of 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, 150 minutes of exercise a week and 7 hours or more of sleep. But it can be hard to get into the habit of a healthier and more rewarding lifestyle.
However, you may not be aware that you should also add at least 2 hours in nature per week to this list and there is a growing body of scientific research to support it.
