The Mindset of a Digital AthleteWhat happens to human performance when technology and AI can increasingly do the thinking, communicating and decision-making for us?
AI can make producing an answer easier while making knowing whether the answer is right harder.
It can make us faster, but does faster mean better?
And if technology allows us to produce more in less time, does that time become ours or are we simply expected to do more?
This is the AI Acceleration Tax: the human cost of accelerating the way we work.
Because our competitive advantage isn't simply our ability to use technology. It is our ability to think critically, create, focus, recover and switch off.Drawing on more than 30 years as a technologist, his work as a digital wellbeing and human performance expert, and his experience as an endurance athlete, Colin Corby explores what it takes to remain capable, focused and fully human in an AI-powered world.
At the heart of the talk is the Digital Athlete Mindset:
Capacity → Behaviour → Performance
Time + Energy + Focus
Technology + Habits + MindsetBecause sustainable performance isn't about demanding more from people.
It's about managing the capacity that produces it. -
Being human in the age of AIColin Corby invites the audience to explore what it is to be human in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Taking inspiration from the latest ideas from technology, neuroscience and philosophy, Colin asks some difficult and thought provoking questions.
-
Is your digital footprint killing the planet?Climate change is the defining crisis of our time and time is running out. The scientific consensus is that humans are the leading cause of climate change.
However, did you realise that your online digital activities have serious consequences for the planet too.

Overview:
In an always-on digital culture, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, distracted, and depleted. The pressure to stay constantly connected—across emails, notifications, meetings, and messaging apps—can erode our attention, increase stress levels, and impact both our mental and physical wellbeing. But what if there were a better way to work and live with technology?

Digital Wellbeing - Half day programHigh performance teams require their managers and professionals to be able to perform at their best, consistently, healthily and sustainably. To do this they need the information, understanding and tools to balance their work with their needs as biological and social beings. Getting this right can improve productivity, creativity, teamwork and create resilience to stress and burnout.
But we have to live and work with technology which brings enormous advantages and possibilities, but it also poses many significant personal and organisational challenges. It’s no surprise that many people struggle to strike a sustainable balance between their online and offline lives, leading to a range of complex issues, such as
• Reduced ability to focus, be creative and productive and are more easily distracted.
• Having no time for essential self-care leading to poorer health and well-being outcomes.
• Feeling less connection with colleagues and other people even though fully connected online.
• Overusing digital devices leading to the buildup of stress, anxiety, and even burnout. This half day program helps employees and managers develop the essential skills to more effectively manage their focus and attention, be more productive and present with the people around them.

20/06/22University Stress! The pandemic has brought about an era of social distancing, remote work for employees and an online educational system for students. Being an undergraduate student myself at that time, I had first-hand experience of this transition to the ‘new normal’. While the final year of an academic degree comes with its own challenges, the university and students became part of an experiment to determine the survival of the ‘adaptable’. The isolation and mental stress brought about during these troubled times, truly tested one’s abilities to manage time effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and preserve one’s mental health as well as manage the risk of burnout. This article, based on my own experiences, explores the additional burden digital media exerts on students, the pros, and the cons of such technology and how to develop a more mindful and healthy relationship with your digital devices.

Technology is designed to make life easier. But every time it does something for us, there is also a chance that we are giving up an opportunity to develop that ability for ourselves.
And many of the things that make us healthier, happier and more resilient are deliberately difficult.
Perhaps that is exactly why they are worth doing.
The August edition explores the relationship between energy, capability and personal growth.
