The power of Digital Detox
Now it's not unusual for technology to leave us feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and struggling to stay focussed. We can feel the need to be always connected, always busy; how then do we make time for our health and fitness and to recharge our social batteries?
In this talk I explore the impact of digital overload and how digital detox can help achieve a healthier and more sustainable technology/life balance. I share three digital detox strategies, and some practical tools and challenges as well as a link to a free download. But most importantly, I introduce the idea that digital detox is a mindset change and an essential enabler to living sustainably with technology.
This talk will be fist presented at 'Elevate – the UK’s fitness, sports therapy and physical activity trade show', at Excel London, 18 June 2025.

Digital detox How to stay human in a digitally connected world
In this keynote talk Colin Corby explores 'how to stay human in a digitally connected world'. He poses the question 'What does it feel like to be you?', explores the future of an AI-connected world and its potential impact, and introduces two key skills for maintaining a healthy, happy, and productive life with technology.
It explores the impact of constant distractions on our human connections, how we are different from the technology we have created, and the unintended consequences of not balancing our time online with our own needs for sleep, exercise, and human connection. Colin suggests that ‘we might even be getting dumber!’ when everything is made easy, and we outsource too much of our knowledge and skills to technology.
The talk concludes with a deep dive into the two essential skills of: ‘To know when to be connected and when to digital detox’ and ‘When connected, how to be purposeful, authentic and true your human values.’
This thirty minute keynote talk is designed for schools, colleges and universities and will be first presented at Brentwood School, Essex, UK on the 19 May 2025.

Digital Wellbeing - Half day program
High performance teams require their managers and professionals to be able to perform at their best, consistently, healthily and sustainably. To do this they need the information, understanding and tools to balance their work with their needs as biological and social beings. Getting this right can improve productivity, creativity, teamwork and create resilience to stress and burnout.
But we have to live and work with technology which brings enormous advantages and possibilities, but it also poses many significant personal and organisational challenges. It’s no surprise that many people struggle to strike a sustainable balance between their online and offline lives, leading to a range of complex issues, such as
• Reduced ability to focus, be creative and productive and are more easily distracted.
• Having no time for essential self-care leading to poorer health and well-being outcomes.
• Feeling less connection with colleagues and other people even though fully connected online.
• Overusing digital devices leading to the buildup of stress, anxiety, and even burnout. This half day program helps employees and managers develop the essential skills to more effectively manage their focus and attention, be more productive and present with the people around them.

Digital Distraction & Productivity
Would you like to win back an extra 30 minutes a day?
Dive into the strange world of why we love to be distracted, how the environment and digital habits trigger our behaviour, why being busy is not the same as being productive and how attention management allows you to get more done and with less stress.
We live in a world where we have constant access to technology 24/7 and the boundaries between work and our personal lives have become blurred. Multiple apps compete for our attention, and algorithms and AI try to anticipate, personalise and influence the choices that we make. Therefore it's no surprise that the cost of so many distractions is the build up of stress and the feelings of constantly being busy.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. This workshop is ideal for organisations with remote and hybrid employees.
In this workshop participants will be provided with information and insights, and easy to implement practical strategies to improve focus & productivity, and to reduce the cumulative build up of stress.

Consulting – digital culture
The pandemic has increased the levels of anxiety, stress and work-related burnout risks worldwide. The more digitally transformed the workplace becomes, the higher the risk of burnouts. While digital transformation at work has many benefits and makes it possible for employees to work remotely and more efficiently, it creates business challenges that impact employee’s productivity, creativity and morale.
Colin Corby is co-author of the international paper ‘Why a healthy digital culture matters’. He brings his wealth of experience in technology and digital wellbeing to help organisations create a healthier and more successful digital culture.

20/06/22University Stress!
The pandemic has brought about an era of social distancing, remote work for employees and an online educational system for students. Being an undergraduate student myself at that time, I had first-hand experience of this transition to the ‘new normal’. While the final year of an academic degree comes with its own challenges, the university and students became part of an experiment to determine the survival of the ‘adaptable’. The isolation and mental stress brought about during these troubled times, truly tested one’s abilities to manage time effectively, prioritize responsibilities, and preserve one’s mental health as well as manage the risk of burnout. This article, based on my own experiences, explores the additional burden digital media exerts on students, the pros, and the cons of such technology and how to develop a more mindful and healthy relationship with your digital devices.

31/03/25Yahoo Life - How to Stop Scrolling in bed
Digital detox coach Colin Corby is featured in an excellent article written by Liz Conner for Yahoo Life entitled ‘How to stop scrolling in bed as night-time phone use linked to insomnia’
“Since the mere presence of a smartphone, laptop or tablet next to your bed can exert an unconscious influence on you, it’s a good idea to charge your devices in another room," says digital detox coach Colin Corby. "This creates friction, giving you time to consciously interrupt any automatic screen-based habits, like unlocking your phone and scrolling on social media.
"If you need your smartphone in your bedroom for the alarm function, try placing it on the other side of the room. Keep a notepad by your bed to jot down any urgent thoughts or forgotten appointments," he adds. This way, you can drift off safe in the knowledge you'll add them to your phone calendar in the morning.”
